Enough Bull, We're ready for the Boxer!

It's time to say goodbye to the bulldog and move on to another great brachycephalic breed, the boxer. But before we do, here's another photo of our friend Panda. We finally got to meet Panda in San Diego this past weekend.

Lions and Tigers and Bears oh my!

These bulldogs live on a refuge for lions, tigers, and bears oh my! they live with the owner of the Wild animal Sanctuary in Colorado! These are some brave bullies, but bravery comes naturally to this breed.
Here's the sanctuary link and a quote from their website, you should really go to the site because they do amazing work. http://www.wildanimalsanctuary.org/

For the past 29 years, The Wild Animal Sanctuary has responded to nearly 1,000 requests from private citizens and government agencies to rescue animals from across the United States, and also in Mexico. Our resident animals were abandoned, abused, illegally kept, or were victims of other terrible situations. Many of them were considered “pets,” and were confiscated by law enforcement officials for being kept illegally. Others were surplus animals from zoos and other wildlife facilities, where they faced euthanasia due to over-breeding or overcrowded conditions. Our 200 residents include tigers, African lions, black bears, grizzly bears, mountain lions, leopards, wolves, servals, bobcats, foxes, lynx, coyote and coati mundi.

The Wild Animal Sanctuary’s mission is to rescue and provide life-long homes for large exotic and endangered captive wild animals, and to educate the public about the causes of, and solutions to America’s captive wildlife crisis.

Shira's NYC bulldog sightings!

Shira is highly allergic to dogs but she just can't resist the cute faces of the English bulldog! Whenever she sees one she risks getting a rash and she goes over squeezes that face and says "What a butt!" and RUNS to wash her hands in the bathroom before her body remembers that she's allergic. Here are some of the dogs (including non-bulldogs) she has risked her life for!

Olde English Bulldogs!

We know this breed is not the same as the English Bulldog but we wanted to post some adorable pictures of this puppy we got to hang out with awhile ago! she was tooooo cute! Here are 2 cute videos we found of an Olde English bully!

Charleigh and her love of English Bulldogs

Charleigh has always loved bulldogs. I told her years ago that she needs to get one. Charleigh's a dancer and she's 6 feet tall with never ending legs and a tiny but muscular body! The bulldog...well let's just say it's the opposite. But with everything opposites attract! Well, when it was time for Charleigh to get a dog what did she get? An English bulldog names Panda!! Josh and Panda's Gammy (Josh's mom) picked Panda out! Josh and Panda have a very tight bond, as well as Panda and her Gammy! Panda's Gammy wanted her and the cat to be best friends but Panda was not convinced about this friendship. Charleigh says Panda has been a great puppy, she's funny, friendly, playful, adorable, and has been healthy so far. However, she also says she's stubborn, slower to train and potty train, and is more delicate than other dogs because she needs to be watched around the pool and can overheat. Most of the pictures are of Charleigh's puppy Panda but one picture is of Charleigh and a dog with sunglasses on in NYC. This pup helped spur her love of the breed.

Introducing English Bulldogs!

As promised, our next breed spotlight is on the English Bulldog. We know everyone is excited for us to highlight this breed because no one can resist the wrinkly funny face on a bulldog. Their heavy breathing, slobbery faces and loose jowls are irresistible to us! They are so ugly and awkward looking that they’re really the cutest thing we’ve ever seen! We hope this comment doesn’t offend our dog friends that aren’t bulldogs. For a great overview on the breed please see this video on Dogs 101: http://animal.discovery.com/videos/dogs-101-english-bulldog.html

There are a lot of famous bulldogs these days because of the trend in teaching these dogs to skateboard! They really do excel in skateboarding and even surfing because of their low bodies and sturdy build. The bulldog is great in apartments and in houses. You have to be careful that they don't overheat and they need to be watched when swimming. You can spot many bulldogs in NY and In San Francisco in fact the bulldog was the 7th most popular breed registered in the AKC in 2009! Here's to you Mr. Wrinkled Face!

More labs!

We thought we would show off a few more labs this weekend! The cute pups above live in sunny LA and enjoy the good life! Below is an adorable duo of puggle and lab..if you look at our past blog we have a different puggle and lab who are also friends!

Also, we thought it was time for another John Grogan quote:
"A dog has no use for fancy cars or big homes or designer clothes. Status symbol means nothing to him. A waterlogged stick will do just fine. A dog judges others not by their color or creed or class but by who they are inside. A dog doesn't care if you are rich or poor, educated or illiterate, clever or dull. Give him your heart and he will give you his. It was really quite simple, and yet we humans, so much wiser and more sophisticated, have always had trouble figuring out what really counts and what does not. As I wrote that farewell column to Marley, I realized it was all right there in front of us, if only we opened our eyes. Sometimes it took a dog with bad breath, worse manners, and pure intentions to help us see."
